Where do I even begin with this campground. Every time we find ourselves talking about the summer, camping, funny moments-somehow Mountain Lake is at the center of the story. When we pulled into an entrance that looked like it belonged to a mansion, I knew this was not one of our normal campgrounds.
We stayed at site 79 because it was ‘on the water’ and had full hook ups. I wouldn’t really consider this site as ‘on the water’ because the edge of the site was an incredibly deep drop off and there were a lot of shrubs between us and the water. That being said, this site does have incredible water views and incredible bird watching! I may have been told I was a crazy bird lady because I was enthralled with the different birds in the bushes and around the site. Make sure to bring your favorite bird ID book to this campground!

My husband loved the water slide so he spent some time in there on the first day. I don’t do water slides so when I took my oldest down I made the mistake of not telling him to hold his nose! I had no idea until after we hit the water. He was SO MAD that we didn’t go back in the pool the rest of the weekend!
My oldest is more of a boat on the water kind of kid. So that’s what him and my husband spent a lot of their time doing, bonding in a boat surrounded by wildlife! They saw an otter just beyond the dog dock. As luck would have it, my oldest got to see his first bear on this trip too! While they were out in the canoe they came across a damn and a big black bear came out of the woods, looked at them and then crossed the dam! I was so incredibly jealous because myself at 31 years old had NEVER seen a bear in the wild but here my 3 year old is seeing one.

We stayed here the weekend of Father’s Day and this campground really loves Dads. They had all kinds of activities planned for the weekend which is wonderful! Before this trip was over, my husband requested that this become his Father’s Day campground!
Our site was the second from the road so sometimes it was a bit noisy since it is a major route but that didn’t take away much from the site. We couldn’t see the traffic so I think that helped a lot. But at night time when everything was quiet and dark every now and then you would hear a car coming. Its noticeable enough to mention but not noticeable enough to be bothersome in my opinion.
I could go on and on about this campground but I won’t. I’ll let you check out the campground for yourself and then you will understand the lasting impression this campground leaves on you. Before we even left we had looked at sites and dates to book again because we didn’t want to leave.
